The annual Briley Skeet Championships was held at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex June 4-7. This event goes back and forth between Houston and Sparta in alternating years and is one of the highlights of the NSSA Skeet Tour. Cliff Moller and his Staff at Briley not only put on a fantastic shoot, but make sure the shooters have a great time. The 2009 edition of this shoot was no exception and everyone had a great time and the scores and targets were excellent. Attendance was down from the 2008 shoot in Houston - nevertheless, shooters from all over the US attended. 

The format for the shoot was a Preliminary Event that saw 50 targets shot each with the 12;20;28 and 410 Bore. Results for each of these events is below: 

Preliminary 12 Gauge - 50 Targets - 135 Entries - 50x50(30 Shooters) - 49x50 (35 Shooters).

In the MAIN EVENT, the shooting order was 28 Gauge; 12 Gauge on Saturday and 410 Bore and 20 Gauge on Sunday - 100 each for a HOA Total of 400 Targets. Stewart McCoin of Oklahoma became the first skeet shooter to break a perfect 400x400 at the Sparta, IL Complex. Closely following McCoin missing only one with 399x400 were John Castillo and Dennis Burns.

Overall, an excellent run event with excellent scores .  Hats off to the crew at the WSRC and the Referees for a fine job. The next major Skeet event at the WSRC is the Midwest Classic to be held in Sparta on September 17-20. Hope to see you all there.
